Holiday Gift Wrapping Ideas

Holiday Gift Wrapping Ideas.jpg

With extra time on our hands, we decided to try our hand at holiday gift wrapping. Normally, I wrap our gifts the day before Christmas in a harried rush, leaving no time for creative gift wrapping. But this year, with more time and a need for more creative outlets, we planned early, got our supplies, googled gift wrapping ideas for inspo and finally learned how to wrap holiday gifts like a DIY pro ;) Scroll down to see what holiday gift wrapping ideas we tried:

Gift Wrapping with Ornament

We found this adorable striped paper at Target for $1 and matched it with colorful satin ribbon. For a couple of presents, we also tried wrapping the gifts with twine and then paired the twine with two small ornaments. This turned out to be an easy gift wrapping hack that came out looking casual yet unique.

Gift Wrapping with Pine & Red Berries

Incorporating pine & red berries into the holiday gift wrapping was easy and simple, and added a special, cozy touch to larger presents. You will often see pine paired with brown Kraft paper. I loved pairing it with this simple red and black checkered paper and traditional black and white twine. All these elements came together to give the present a homey and cozy feel.

Gift Wrapping with Chunky Ribbon

I love the classic image of a present wrapped with a wide ribbon and topped with a large bow. It’s the fanciest of the fancy. Tips for creating this design include: Measure out your ribbon beforehand and place the middle (half-way point) at the center front. Criss-cross the ribbon at the back of the box. Before starting a bow, we tighten the ribbon around the present by sliding each end beneath the ribbon in the front (we did not tie a knot in order to keep the initial ribbon as flat as possible.) Lastly, we tied a bow the way young children tie shoelaces. We made two bunny ears and tied them together. For one present, we wanted a fuller bow so we tied two bows (one on top of the other) bunny ears style, and then molded the ends into two additional loops to create a 6-loop bow.

It was so much fun to experiment with a creative project like holiday gift wrapping. Next year, we’ll know to use transparent tape (haha - newbie mistake). We’ll invest in high-quality paper to avoid tears and get our supplies early to be able to do this again.
